IIEI Education and Training for Veterans

THE MONTGOMERY G.I. BILL FOR VETERANS:
The Montgomery G.I. Bill (MGIB) is available to all veterans of active service in any of the branches. The permanent one-time-choice of whether or not to participate in the program is up to the recruit, and is made in basic training. There are monetary limits and time limits on how much the program will pay out and for how long.

The Active Duty G.I. Bill Benefits can be used while on active duty, or after honorable discharge. MGIB benefits expire 10 years after discharge.

INTERESTED IN ATTENDING AFTER COMPLETING THEIR MILITARY SERVICE:

Veteran MGIB benefits vary according to the student’s total time of active duty in the service:

A) Veterans may use MGIB after honorable separation from active duty with 3 years of active duty. To have these benefits, you must have served three continuous years of active duty, unless you were honorably discharged early for one of a very few specific reasons (such as medical).

B) Veterans may also use MGIB after honorable separation from active duty with 2 Years of Active Duty, You only need two continuous years of active duty if:

o You first enlisted for two years of active duty, or
o You have an obligation to serve four years in the Selected Reserve (the 2 X 4 program). You must enter the Selected Reserve within one year of your release from active duty. OR
o You were separated (honorably) early for one of the very specific reasons allowed (such as medical).

USING THE MGIB AS A VETERAN AT IIEI

Step One: Determine Eligibility

To determine eligibility, students should contact their local VA Branch office for current criteria and/or complete the application for the benefits. The application (VA Form 22-1990) will be reviewed by the VA, and the agency will determine if the individual is eligible. Students may also contact IIEI for additional eligibility information. IIEI cannot definitively determine who will be approved, but can offer the requirements and insight for applicants.

Step Two: Complete the VA 22-1990 Enrollment Form

Students using their MGIB Benefits can complete the enrollment form (VA 22-1990) online at http://vabenefits.vba.va.gov/vonapp/main.asp.

Students may also complete a paper form and submit it to their nearest VA Regional Office. To determine where your nearest branch is, students may refer to the list of locations available here:
appropriate VA regional office.

Step Three: Indicate IIEI as Your Primary Institution

When selecting your primary civilian institution, be sure to indicate the International Import-Export Institute. IIEI is listed online in the DANTES Catalog of Approved Institutions, or you may locate us by searching for schools based in Phoenix, Arizona.

By indicating IIEI as your primary institution, it allows your VA enrollment information to be forwarded to the Institute for billing and registration purposes. Be sure to contact your Regional VA Education Center or a member of IIEI’s Administration at 800-474-8013 if you encounter any problems in registering your VAMGIB benefits with IIEI.

Step Four: Choose Your Program or Course of Study to Enroll in Class

If you have not already done so, students should contact one of the Institute’s friendly Academic Advisors or Degree Counselors to receive additional information regarding any of IIEI’s available programs or courses. Advisors and Counselors will guide you through the paperwork, answer questions, and finalize all enrollments.

Additionally, a select set of advisors and counselors have additional clearance and resources to work with your Education Center Representatives to make the entire registration process simple for students new to military education benefits. Please contact your Advisor or Counselor to determine what program or course is right for you, and how your VA benefits can cover the cost of your continuing education or training.

Step Five: Receive Your Course Materials and Start Class

Once you have chosen your course or program and enrolled with your assigned Advisor or Counselor, IIEI’s Administration staff will process and finalize your registration. Students will receive a registration confirmation email that guarantees their spot in the upcoming courses, and information on how to order any necessary course materials or supplies.

Prior to class starting, students will receive an online or telephone tutorial which explains what is expected of them in the classroom and how to navigate the online environment. Students may contact their Advisor or Counselor for any additional assistance before, during, or after their course.
